This story begins with the description of the suspensor Mrs. Mallard. Mrs. Mallard is a young wife said to ache heart issues. At the beginning of the story, Mrs. Mallards sister, Josephine, and family adept Richards arrived to break very bad news to our protagonist. Her husband, Mr. Mallard, was reported dead. Mr. Mallard, as told by the news bearers, was on a train that crashed en route and killed everyone onboard. This train crash is our antagonist. Mrs. Mallard ascends into the attic where she begins to grieve. She sits in a chair in front of a big window and looks out on the countryside. She is broken, crying as a child who has cried itself to sleep continues to sob in its dreams (16). The story makes a sudden turn after a short dapple of grieving. Suddenly, Mrs. Mallard realizes a certain relief with the loss of her husband. She verbalised this overwhelming sense of unaffixeddom and soon began to look before to the future. A future where she is alone, with no responsibilities, liabilities or duties to fulfill. Futures that she had been dreading for the last fewer years, thinking that she was going to be spend with her husband.



After orgasm to this realization, she becomes almost overjoyed at the prospect of being alone. Free, free, free! (16) she said exclaiming her joy.
Moments later, after having this revelation, the doorbell rings. The trio looks at it with curiosity. Upon opening the door, Mr. Mallard stood there healthy as he could be. He had apparently not been on the train. This surprise surprise Mrs. Mallard, who had been ecstatic at the idea of single life. It shocked her so much that she became overwhelmed and died immediately because of her heart.
