Without question Sacagawea plunged into the nipping water along with her newborn. She caught the swift current because of the cradelboard which was tightly trussed to her back. She was able t o wrestle a large crate to the slope of the boat containing the diary of Captain Clark. This was one of the altruistic acts that Sacagawea committed.
